MANASSAS, Va. — Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative is accepting applications from area high school and home-school students for the annual National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Youth Tour, June 11-15, 2017, to see government in action.
NOVEC will select five high school sophomore and junior students who are interested in government and history. Students will be selected based on their grades, a written essay, and short interview. Their parents or guardians must receive electric service from NOVEC.
The selected students will join more than 1,500 students from across the nation in the all-expenses-paid tour. They will visit Capitol Hill, museums, memorials, and historic landmarks, and they will be treated to a special evening event.
In February 2018, the students will join the Commonwealth's other Youth Tour delegates for a day at the Virginia General Assembly in Richmond. They will meet with their local legislators, and attend committee hearings and sessions in the House of Delegates and Senate.
