MANASSAS, Va. — The Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) and the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC) have awarded college and higher-education scholarships to 16 high school seniors who live in Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William, and Stafford counties, and the City of Manassas Park.
NOVEC Scholarship Program
“NOVEC supports education as a community service,” said Cindy Fithian, NOVEC public and government relations liaison. “As part of this support, NOVEC selection committees reviewed 155 scholarship applications this year. They looked at students’ academic records, recommendations, community involvement, work experience, essays, and demonstrated leadership.”
Fithian said the selection committees always have a difficult task because, “so many applicants have outstanding records and accomplishments.”
After extensive reviews, the review committees selected 10 high seniors to receive $1,500 college scholarships. The committees reviewed the applications of these 10 students again to select the most outstanding student to receive the $1,500 J. Manley Garber scholarship, named for NOVEC’s longest-serving board director. The Garber Scholar received a total of $3,000.
